This is a little treasure I picked up at a garage sale years ago. Here are three lovely bathing beauties enjoying some water sports accompanied by a herd of buffalo. It's such a fun collage. I wish I knew who did it - he or she had a great sense of humor.
Doesn't it resemble the theme photo - random people having fun in the water?
Then we have Mabel (doesn't she look like a Mabel?). She's got on her new swimwear and just might touch her foot in the water. She won't go in all the way because she'd totally ruin that lovely hat:
To continue with the fashion show, we next have Gloria (I call her goofy Gloria because she's just such a card). She's designed her own swimwear which looks kind of like a Project Runway challenge (for those of you who might not get this TV show - it involves fashion designers who have to create designs using things such as kelp from the beach or...I think you get the idea).
Mabel had a nice swim cap, but wait until you get a load of these (This video just keeps going and going and I couldn't figure out how to edit out just one of the videos - so watch as much as you have time for):
Wade over to Sepia Saturday for more swimmingly fun stories.
Ha Ha Ha. I enjoyed this post from start to finish and still have a big smile at that video! Oh how times have changed....thankfully!
ReplyDeleteI hated those 1950s swim caps, especially the ones with the strap. They always pulled my hair and dug into my forehead and chin.
ReplyDeleteI remember in the 50s & 60s if you wanted to swim in a public pool, you had to wear a swim cap. I had 3 that I remember fondly. One was all white but feathery, one was rose-covered, & one had a variety of different colored daisies all over it, & none had a chin strap. Love the pix of the gals in their 20s/30s bathing suits, & the video was great fun. I watched the whole thing! :))
ReplyDeleteThose caps never kept the water out for me. I had to suffer wearing the cap and then had wet hair anyway. I was very happy when I gave them up.
ReplyDeleteWhat a hoot. Enjoyed your models, as well as the swim cap video. Loved seeing the hats the audience members were wearing as well.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great video. I agree about the sense of humor involved with the buffalo girls. I like the photo bomber behind Mary and Harold. She looks like she's telling us something "off the record"...
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I would classify your subjects as bathing beauties exactly, but as they say, beauty is in the mind of the beholder! The video clip is fun. I never found swimming caps much use, but amazingly they are still available in the shops, Not sure who wears them!
ReplyDeleteYou made me smile Nancy. I think I should have had one of those swim caps with the false curls attached. I always found them really uncomfortable - and they let the water in.
ReplyDeleteFun post! Good examples of the theme. Some snapshot just beg for stories don't they? I have some with that "kelp" fashion too! It must be a popular theme.
ReplyDeleteThis was fun! I only watched the first part of the video, but it was great! Swim caps never kept my hair dry either and I think I do remember that we were required to wear them in public pools to keep hair our of the drains, I suppose.
ReplyDeleteYes, yes…Project Runway. Nina would be rolling her eyes and sighing.
ReplyDeleteWith that first shot I'm thinking, "Oh no, not downstream. Definitely NOT downstream!"
Great video of swim caps - they are now compulsory in many local swimming pools - hygiene reasons, and the grand-kids each had a fancy cap when they were young which made it so easy to keep an eye on them in the water.
ReplyDeleteI remember when everyone at the local baths including men had to wear swim caps. No me I just watched. Fun first photo and good selection of swimwear.
